(*) last year, the first time we organised this event, we thought that runners might prefer to start off with a middle distance race after six consecutive days of orienteering in the Aveyron. Between the Tarn gorges and the Cévennes hills….the Causses.

Great expanses of steppe-like terrain covered with boxwood and juniper. Strange groupings of dolomitic rock cover the ground, their jagged silhouettes forming strange shapes like the lunar landscape around Le Caylar. Battlements and towers of the templar villages of La Couvertoirade, Sainte Eulalie and La Cavalerie, the roofs of whose houses seem to take us back to the middle ages. Precipitous gorges surrounding these high plateaus and cutting them off from the rest of the world. The spectacular cirques of the winding river Vis (Navacelles, Vissec).

You are on the Grand Causse of Larzac, which covers over 1, 000 square km., accounting for a quarter of the whole area of main causses and ranging in height from 600 to 900 metres.

Some distances : Le  Caylar – London = 1077 km -  Brest = 1085km – Lille = 896km – Strasbourg = 868km – Paris = 680km – Bordeaux = 415km  Nice = 403km – Lyon = 380km – Clermont Ferrand = 266km – Toulouse = 204km - Nîmes = 130km - Montpellier = 72km  - The Mediterranean  = 60km
